Dough dreamy Biggest Morning Tea

Hosting my 1st year

My diagnoses.

Hi All,
And welcome to my newest hobby dough dreamy I am born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. I’m a daughter, sister, wife and mum with an English and Australian heritage.
When I was in high school I was made aware of two moles on my back and neck that needed to be removed but fortunately enough were non cancerous. I spent growing up like any other teenager enjoying the sun on my skin, spending my summer down the beach and thinking cancer would never affect me, suffering many nights red raw from sunburn and covering myself in aloe Vera. I was told to have regular skin checks at least yearly but as I got older and I become a mum I worried less about myself and more about everyone else .
In 2023 I decided it would be the year I would put me first and booked in a skin check before summer started to ensure my freckles and moles weren’t unusual, I have quiet tanned skin but a lot of freckles. Late in 2023 I was having issues with a growth on my eye lid, it was a freckle like feature that would constantly scab, bleed, fall off then reappear. It would often scratch my eye and my eyelashes started to grow up into my eye, I booked an appointment with the optometrist who said it didn’t look like anything concerning and to keep an eye on it. Until an acquaintance suggested I mention it at my upcoming skin check has her sibling had gone through a similar situation and unfortunately it was cancer. October 2023 my appointment was scheduled for and I had my fingers crossed it was nothing sinister, he checked my legs, arms, stomach and chest as we worked the way up to my face. All of them looking okay with nothing concerning showing up, he took one look at my eye and asked how long I have had it for, I actually looked back and noticed it was about a year that it had been there for. He said straight away “ I don’t want to scare you but it doesn’t look good”. He got straight on the phone and started organising an appointment with a top local plastic surgeon, within a week I was sitting at the surgeons office scared of what his about to say, “ bcc” basal cell cancer type of skin cancer that begins in the basal cells. Unfortunately because it is on my eyelid and it’s extremely sensitive area to carry out surgery on he decided the best option for me was to get put to sleep and have it removed and biopsied, Four weeks later I was getting ready to attend my surgery where he was going to cut the cancer out of my eyelid and get it biopsied. Thankfully my surgery went smoothly and now we awaited the biopsy results and go from there, 4-6 weeks after surgery I attended my follow up were he gave me the unfortunate news of that my cancer has actually spread and my margins are still positive. Due to the area of where my cancer was he wanted to give it time to heal and redo my surgery in May 2024 which is the month We are in now and I am four days out from redo surgery, unfortunately we are unsure if it will involve a full eyelid reconstruction or we will be able to get the majority of it out through the previous incision but as we are getting closer to my second cancer surgery at the age of 28 with four kids it is a reminder to everyone and anyone to look after yourself. Get your skin checked wear sunscreen cover up, and look after you because you are never too young or old to get cancer .
