Thank you - Morning Tea Update

I wanted to say a HUGE Thank you to all that attended and made generous online donations for the 2024 Biggest Morning Tea, we had a lovely morning and raised $2,260.00!!!!!

What an amazing thing, we are able to help people who need it and with the much needed research assist with funding.

I look forward to another event in 2025 xx

My Journey

Hi All,

As most of you are aware I had my personal Cancer scare and journey that all started in 2020. 

I was bloating a lot and feeling nauseous all of the time, so I went to the GP who referred me to a Gastro Specialist, where I had my colonoscopy and gastroscopy. Here they found tiny folds in my bowel that ended up being not so nice. Dr Chen removed as much as he could and called me back for a follow up procedure, where it was decided I was to be referred to a colorectal surgeon for review. 

Here is where my little world turned upside down and I was told I needed to have a Large Intestine, subtotal colectomy. I was booked in and 09 February 2021 I went in for the rather invasive surgery. Majority of my large intestine was removed but I was lucky enough not to have a colostomy bag, she could leave just enough large intestine to re join to my small intestines. Fast forward a lot of pain and a few weeks in hospital recovering and rehabilitating and home I went, for a further seven intensive weeks of recovery before starting to get back to a "normal life" during the Covid19 lockdown. I had the best support from my friends and family and they honestly got me through one of the toughest medical journeys of my life and I thank them every day for it.

I have bi-annual check ups and so far am doing amazingly with no nasty cancer cells returning.

So what I would like for you all to take from this, is if you feel something isn't right, get it checked out, as if you leave it you might not be so lucky. Look after yourselves and stay healthy!
